How to Clean and Care for 925 Silver Jewelry

925 silver jewelry can stay bright for years. You just need to know why silver changes color, and give it a few minutes now and then.
Why does silver tarnish?
Silver reacts with sulfur compounds in the air and with humidity, and over time a dark layer forms on it. This is a natural process, not a sign of fake silver, and the layer comes off easily. We explained what 925 silver is made of in our 925 silver guide.
Routine cleaning at home
- Fill a bowl with lukewarm water and a little mild dish soap.
- Soak the piece for a few minutes and clean it gently with a soft toothbrush, including between the stones.
- Rinse in clean water.
- Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth. Leftover moisture speeds up tarnish.
Heavier tarnish
A silver polishing cloth brings back the shine without scratching. Rub with long, gentle strokes. Avoid toothpaste and abrasive powders, which leave fine scratches.
Gold-plated and rose-gold pieces
Clean plated pieces only with water, mild soap and a soft cloth, without hard rubbing and without a silver polishing cloth, so the plating does not wear off.
How to store it
- Keep each piece separately, in a sealed bag or a lined box, so pieces do not scratch each other.
- Keep jewelry out of a humid bathroom.
- Close necklace clasps before storing so they do not tangle.
What to avoid
You can wear MUSK jewelry in the shower: water does not harm silver. What does harm it is pool chlorine, sea water, hot springs and cleaning products. Put on perfume, lotion and hairspray before your jewelry, not after.
Our warranty
MUSK jewelry comes with a one-year warranty that covers stone settings and tarnishing. Full details are on the warranty and terms of use page.
