How to Choose a Makeup Vanity: Sizes, Lighting and What to Check Before You Buy

1. Measure the space

Makeup vanities range from about 70 cm wide for a small corner to over 120 cm for a vanity with a side drawer unit. Measure the wall and leave room for the chair and for opening the drawers. Check whether the listed width includes the drawer unit.

2. Lighting: the secret to precise makeup

Overhead ceiling light casts shadows under the eyes, which is exactly what makes makeup hard. LED lighting around the mirror lights the face evenly from the front, so you see colors accurately. If possible, place the vanity near a window, and make sure there is a power outlet nearby for the lights.
